Surface Design Study: Research and Design
Final first draft For my surface design study I was inspired by my family's traditional Tajik embroidery and wood carving! I blended the square shapes with the curve of the flower motifs used in the wall décor embroidery. Initial Sketch Idea I started with the center piece of the traditional bar design and then rotated and copied it. Then I got onto the edges which I arrayed squares on to create the flower shape that encompasses the centerpiece. I then trimmed the parts I didn't want and placed it over the geometric design, overlapping the edges. The next part was the outside where I arrayed some circles to create the flower petals. The last thing I added was small ovals which I also arrayed after putting in an extra circle as a guide. I added colours I found are the most commonly used for Tajik embroidery and textile and then changed the background to black as that is the main base fabric used when making wall textiles.
