Papercraft Objects: Digital Samples

This week we jumped into the creation of 3d objects and deconstruction them into its flat net forms! This a process done through the "unfolding" of the sides of every object that gets put together to create whatever item is being emulated! "Light Saber"  This is a lightsaber I created using 3 objects:  2 hexagonal prisms (dividers) 1 octagonal prism (handle) 1 decagonal prism (blade) "Simple Perfume Bottle" This is a simplifies perfume bottle made with 3 rectangular prisms of differing sizes stacked on top of each other. "Sophisticated Perfume Bottle" This is a more complicated and sophisticated perfume bottle design made out of 3 shapes: 1 hexagonal prism 1 rectangular prism 1 trapezoidal prism

Papercraft Objects: Final Revision

 This week was work time for the final revision of our papercraft objects! Class Critique response:  The main thing I needed to work on for the final was to add in the lighting so that my project properly glowed. Then it was to adjust the size of the box for the "Dear diary," side of my lightbox journal!  I bought 2 different types of LED lights for this project: Fairy lights and multi coloured lights. Both of these are from the dollar store.  On the left side of my lightbox journal I chose to use fairy lights to keep it a warm tone and give emphasis to the words.  For the right side I chose to use the coloured lights to give off the fantasy story telling vibe and make it stand out the most within the project.  The lights are threaded through a small square in the far side opposite to the spine of the lightbox journal so they can be turned off and on. Papercraft Objects: Printed templates

This week was a ramp up in the papercraft assignment with the creation of the prototype printed templates of our final object idea! I took inspiration from the papercraft research I did and decided to create a lightbox scene. My significant object is my notebook/journal! I have kept one since I was in middle school and it keeps all of my secrets, grief, and happy moments safe within its pages. the concept is that it will open like a book as a 3d object and then it will reveal the 2 scenes within it as it lights up! These are the flattened and net versions of both sides of the diary for print. I miss calculated on the spine however as I needed to add 1 more rectangle for it to fit both boxes together properly. And finally all of the digital CAD work printed out onto cardstock ready for class! I am greatly anticipating the pain that I will experience in attempting to actually cut and put this object together! Wish me luck!
